A number of years ago I began the study of business. I quickly
realized that not everyone who ran a business understood those basic principles that I
took for granted as foundational for any successful venture. Even the simple fact that
different talents brought about better results when properly applied in the business
environment seemed to have been lost. |
||
For example, the visionary who founded the enterprise was not necessarily
the best administrator, or the possibly the most talented as the chief sales person. Obviously,
those who are naturally gifted in sales make better
sales and marketing personnel then others whose abilities were more suited to the organizational
side of things. This seems like it should be obvious, but it is frequently overlooked in
the 'real' world. That is not to say that the administrative talented person cannot learn to be
a fine sales person. However, they will probably never quite equal one who is naturally gifted
in that area. Certainly, they will not find it as easy to achieve the same results. The same
principle applies to most of the basic business functions or classifications. |
||
|
During the following years, I continued to study various types and
sized businesses; some successful, and some not yet so fortunate. I also studied those
business principles taught in the formal arena sifting through the fads versus those
principles which withstood the test of time. I developed a series of logical and
workable guidelines to which any business could and should adhere to in order to
achieve and maintain a successful enterprise. Those principles encompass all major
aspects, from leadership to the lowest level of employment within the operation. |

That was when Steward's Trust
was started. Working as an administrative and organizational consultant, initially
with smaller corporations, and sole proprietorships I began giving council to business
owners, sometimes in their homes. I watched as they applied what I advised for their
personal businesses, and watched their success. They were able to make quick adjustments
due to the control and size of the businesses. However, I quickly found that the same
type of action was possible with the medium, and larger organization, once the decision
has been reached to become truly excellent and a faithful steward of the business. |

|
During the time frame starting in 1980 I served as the General Manager
for a local service and distribution company, worked as the cost analyst on a twenty-five
million dollar reconstruction project, and then moved to the mid-west to begin a marketing
venture for a Seattle based manufacturing firm. During the 1990 recession I returned to the
Pacific Northwest and driving semi to support my bride and five wonderful children. I was then
enlisted by the company to utilize my administrative gifts to oversee the start-up and
operation for a new terminal and routing in central and southern Oregon. |
||
After becoming unable, due to injury, to continue with my heavy
manual occupation I began the adventure of returning to school to retrain and retool to
resume productivity, and utilize my administrative abilities. I selected the Computer
Information Systems program at Umpqua Community College, from which I graduated in 2004
with honors and a 3.76 GPA. |
||
This was a logical choice since the technical age is fully upon us,
with tools desirable for all sizes of enterprises, and an overwhelming need for trained personnel
who truly understand technology and its application for business. In other words, there is a void
of people who could make sense for businesses of the use of these new and expanding tools in terms
that the non-technically trained business leader can easily grasp. Since I was already a person
trained in business administration I have invested in the completion of a Computer Science degree
that I may provide focus on the appropriate solutions made available by the ever-changing technology. |
||
|
While in the concluding steps in gaining that education which I
began informally many years ago, in the formal environment as a Computer Science major at
Portland State University, I am available to meet with and personally answer the questions
you may have about how your organization can operate to the greatest effect. Together we
can take the final steps in blending
with the technology of today,
and tomorrow!
